Q: What is an MMORPG?
A: MMORPG is an acronym for massively multiplayer online role-playing game. In an MMORPG, millions of players from around the world can interact with each other to socialize or achieve common goals in a persistent gameplay world.

Q: Who is developing Champions Online?
A: Cryptic Studios, one of the leading independent developers of MMORPGs for the PC and next generation consoles, is the developer of Champions Online. Cryptic is best known as the creator of the award-winning titles City of Heroes® and City of Villains™, and is also developing Star Trek Online.

Q: Who is publishing Champions Online?
A: Cryptic has partnered with 2K Games for publishing, which includes marketing, public relations, and distribution. 2K Games has recently published such mega-hits as Bioshock and Civilization.

Q: Where did the idea come from?
A: Champions Online is based on the popular pen-and-paper Champions role-playing game created by George MacDonald in 1981. The Champions RPG is still in production today under Steve Long of HERO Games. Read more here!

Q: Will Champions Online use the HERO System from the Champions PnP?
A: Champions Online does not use the HERO System. We have however taken plenty of inspiration from the HERO system by taking the core concepts of character and power customization and incorporating them into our vision of the Champions universe. You'll see some terminology that is familiar to the HERO System such as Advantages, Perks, etc. but we're implementing them in a way better suited for an action-gameplay MMORPG experience.

Q: How can I play Champions Online? Is there a download for the game?
A: Champions Online is currently in development and has not yet been released or made available for retail purchase.

Q: When will Champions Online be released?
A: Champions Online is slated for release in Spring 2009.

A: Absolutely! 2K Games’ extensive expertise in the European gaming communities and elsewhere will be a huge asset in ensuring Champions Online makes a big worldwide splash.

Q: What is a Beta Test?
A: Beta Testing is the final stage of game testing prior to commercial release. The early phases of testing are usually the first time anyone outside of a developer's employees have seen the game. Players who are invited to take part get to experience the game early, but are also reporting bugs and providing valuable feedback during development.

Q: How do I become a Beta Tester?
A: Players can now sign up for a chance to participate in the closed beta for Champions Online by visiting http://www.champions-online.com/preview_application.

Q: What systems is Champions Online being developed for?
A: Champions Online is being developed for both the Xbox 360 and PC.

Q: What are the system requirements?
A: We haven't finalized this yet. Suffice to say, we want to make a game that looks great and can run well on a wide variety of systems.

A: We will support DirectX 9 at launch. Eventually we'll have specific support for DirectX 10, but it might not be until after launch.

Q: Will console and PC players be on the same servers?
A: We would like that to be the case. There is nothing technologically keeping us from making it so.

Q: What rating will Champions Online have?
A: Champions Online is not yet rated by the ESRB; however we are aiming for a “T” for teen rating.
